Leonor is an 18-year-old woman who is passionate about the ocean and is dreaming of a career in the marine industry. She is currently studying Environmental Engineering at Nova School of Science and Technology in Lisbon, Portugal. As an Open Water Diver she is looking forward to take her diving experience to new levels because “escaping the surface to that beautiful melody of the deep silence”, is her biggest passions. During the summers she works as a guide and deck hand at a dive and cetaceans observation centre, in the Azores.

Whilst sailing and discovering new horizons, Leonor loves to write and create poems about the deep, in the hope to share her stories and inspire others to protect marine biodiversity. Through Daughters of the Deep she hopes to extend this passion to other young women and help them discover the amazing blue world.

Maisie is a Marine Biologist and Humanitarian, having worked with several conservation and community NGOs across the globe. She specialises in the application of large data to the conservation of Elasmobranchs (sharks, skates, and rays), and received a Masters by Research from the University of Exeter, focussing on the genetic analysis of rays from the North Atlantic. Her recent work includes coordinating community projects for NGOs in Asia and the UK, where she grew her passion of working at the intersection between community development and conservation.

Previously Maisie was the Director of Operations for the Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute, where she manages their array of scientific research, community outreach, and conservation programmes. She has witnessed the disproportionate challenges facing women in Madagascar first- hand and firmly believes in the incredible difference DOTD can make in these communities!

Leneita is the Executive Director of the Reef Institute in Florida. For over two decades, this love of the sea was used to help students in under resourced neighbourhoods discover new avenues of education and exploration.

Leneita has over 23 years experience in the non-profit world working in strategic planning, direction and growth and has been inspired by the Reef Institute to be a part of the solution to save our ocean.
